Yarrow Silvers Announces Candidacy for East Anchorage Assembly Seat with
Strong Endorsements from Local Leaders

Anchorage, AK – Today, respected community advocate Yarrow Silvers officially announced her candidacy for the East Anchorage Assembly seat being vacated by Assembly Member Karen Bronga, who is not seeking re-election.

“I am pleased to endorse Yarrow Silvers for the Anchorage Assembly. Her deep knowledge of East Anchorage issues coupled with her commitment to transparency, affordable housing, and safer communities, make her the best choice to represent District 5,” said Karen Bronga. “Yarrow’s leadership on the Scenic Foothills Community Council as vice president and her long-standing dedication to addressing the challenges our community faces prove she’s ready to serve. I can’t think of a better person to represent East Anchorage.”

“I was born and raised in Alaska, and for more than a decade, East Anchorage has been my heart and home. I’m ready to ensure the decisions affecting our community truly serve the needs of the people,” Silvers shared. “We must focus on creating affordable housing, addressing homelessness, and providing economic opportunities that keep Anchorage families rooted here.”

Silvers has an extensive public record of civic engagement having consistently advocated for local solutions that support working families and underserved communities, establishing her as a powerful voice for equitable policies, responsible governance, a strong public education system, and safer communities.

As part of her advocacy, Silvers was a plaintiff in a lawsuit challenging Alaska’s redistricting process, focusing on how the Alaska Redistricting Board redrew political boundaries. The court ultimately ruled in favor of the plaintiffs, requiring revisions to the redistricting plan and underscoring Silvers’ commitment to fair and equal representation for all Alaskans.

Silvers’ candidacy has already garnered support from some of Anchorage’s most respected leaders.

Endorsements include: State Senators Forrest Dunbar and Bill Wielechowski, House Representatives Andrew Gray and Donna Mears, as well as Anchorage Assembly Members Anna Brawley, Karen Bronga, Christopher Constant, George Martinez, Kameron Perez-Verdia, Daniel Volland, and Anchorage School Board Vice President Carl Jacobs.

With backing from both state and local leaders, Silvers’ campaign reflects a shared commitment to advancing Anchorage’s future.

“I’m deeply grateful for the trust and support I’ve received. I look forward to representing the residents of East Anchorage and working together to deliver the changes that will move our community forward,” said Silvers. “There’s so much we can accomplish when we unite behind a shared vision for a stronger, more prosperous Anchorage.”

A graduate of Metropolitan State University of Denver with a Bachelor’s in Environmental Science, Silvers previously worked for the Alaska Department of Fish and Game and later at a small locally owned environmental consulting firm. She presently works as a legislative aide for Independent Representative Alyse Galvin.

Silvers has been married to her husband, Tim, for 20 years and spent nearly a decade as a stay-at-home mom, raising their two children, both of whom attend Anchorage School District schools.
